Praise and Glory to HIS Holy Name!

Sticks and Stones can hurt our bones, BUT, Words can never hurt us. REALLY?

Lets take a closer look at how words can direct lives:

  • Satan’s words caused Adam and Eve to doubt God. - Read Genesis 3:1-13
  • God curses the serpent (but leaves an escape clause in Jesus) Read  Genesis 3:14-15
  • God curses Eve- Read  Genesis 3:16
  • God cursed the ground and judged man to toil. Read Genesis 3:17-19
  • Because Man now knows good and evil Satan can sway man’s judgment to evil - Read   Genesis 3:22

We saw Jesus deliver a curse in Matthew 21:10 "May you never bear fruit again?” Immediately the tree withered.

Thought to ponder:

We are shown that curses can come from words. Do our negative words curse the outcome of a situation?

·         Matthew 12:36 “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken.”

·         James 1: 26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.”

Thought to ponder:

Why are we told to keep a tight rein on our tongue and that we will have to answer for it on the Day of Judgement?

  • Words direct our decisions and, often, cause us to doubt God (Genesis 3) and His will for our lives.
  • Care should be taken in who we choose to council us in our decision making process.
  • Words can direct the thinking of other people and sway their decisions.

We see that words are very powerful and have the ability to sway our thinking which in turn sways our decisions and ultimately can change the course of our life and the lives of those around us.
